Primary program

The primary school years are a critical time for students to not only learn fundamental concepts and mechanics, but to also develop learning skills and approaches that will set the stage for a lifetime of success. Hands-on, engaged learning through activities is a staple of our grade school classrooms spans the entire school year.

Students will develop strong reading comprehension skills, write original composition pieces, develop critical thinking skills, learn fundamental math concepts, read classic literature, explore a variety of science topics, and learn about the world around them.

The Primary School classes include grades 1 through 6.

The subjects include – Language Arts (French & English), Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, Geography, Art – that are taught by classroom teachers. Students also have Physical Education, Computer literacy and Music taught once or twice a week sometimes by a specialty teacher.

Assessment plays an important part in helping teachers and parents to recognize children’s progress, highlights areas in which some additional support might be needed; and focus particularly on any areas where there is a concern that a child may have a developmental delay.

They are assessed two times per trimester – mid-term and at the end of each term.
